FAQ

What can I buy from Silk Diva?

Silk Diva is the website where you can buy original and beautiful clothes.

Silk Diva uses a variety of fabrics that include 100% silk or silk blends, cotton, modal and polyester. Recently we have discovered a blend of stretch polyester that is very comfortable and popular to wear, and from this remarkable fabric we have created The Diva Jacket!

What kind of silk does Silk Diva use in their garments?

Silk chiffon, habotai, georgette, crinkle and charmeuse silk have been combined with classic and casual styles to evolve into a range of silk sleepwear and silk clothes that will make every woman and man feel sensational.

What about tailoring and size?

Silk Diva is tailored with great attention to detail, using french seams and mother of pearl buttons and we endeavour to carry all styles at all times.  Furthermore many styles are a limited edition, which provides the opportunity for exciting new garments to be offered on a regular basis.   Catering for S/10, M/12, L/14, XL/16, and XXL/18 (Diva size) in some kimonos, standard styles can also be made to measure.

Benefits of wearing silk?

Many women and men really enjoy wearing silk ... to experience the lightness, the softness, the sheen, and the beautiful way silk drapes.

But... there is so much more to silk. Silk is unlike any other fibre, such as cotton which retains moisture, or synthetics which heat up and do not breathe.

Silk helps regulate body temperature, thus keeping us cool in summer and warm in winter.

Silk is also hypoallergenic, due to its natural composition of amino acids, and breathes like a second skin.  Unlike synthetic fabrics which stop the airflow to your body, creating body odour and discomfort, silk rarely holds odour and can be worn many times without washing.

Hairdressers recommend sleeping on a silk pillow slip to keep hair smooth.  Beauticians also claim that sleeping on a silk pillow slip stops skin from premature wrinkling.

True Beauty Sleep on a Silk Pillow Slip...

  • Cotton pillow cases draw moisture from your hair and skin, drying it out
  • Silk breathes, regulates temperature, is hypoallergenic, cool in summer and warm in winter
  • Silk stops your hair from splitting and eliminates bed head hair by allowing your hair to glide over the pillow
  • Silk prevents sleep creases, the drag and friction that causes skin to crease on cotton pillow slips

Care for my Silk Diva silk products?

Handwashing

  • Silk fabric has been produced for over five thousand years, whereas the dry cleaning process has only been around since the 1840s. Clearly, dry cleaning isn’t necessary.
  • Silk tends to looks better and last longer when hand washed. The natural coating on silk fibers reacts well to warm water, so hand washing also has the advantage of refreshing silk and giving it a better drape.
  • Silk can be hand washed in cool or lukewarm water using a mild detergent such as Softly, a woolwash, or shampoo dissolved in the water. Because silk resists dirt and stains, only a small amount of soap should be used. Silk, like most natural fibers, doesn’t tolerate abrupt changes in temperature very well, so stay with one water temperature throughout the wash.
  • Avoid soaking silk as this may fade the dye. To both revive faded or yellowed colors and protect the fabric from alkali damage, rinse the silk in water with a few tablespoons of white vinegar added. The vinegar rinse will minimize silk becoming brittle. After the wash and vinegar rinse, rinse the silk thoroughly in cool water.

Machine washing

  • In general, machine washing is not recommended to clean silk as the agitator and other garments can damage the fabric. Garments made with a combination of fabrics or those that are highly detailed should not be machine washed at all. However, if the instructions for your wash machine state that the machine is safe for silk, there should be no serious problem washing most silks in it.  Place the silk item in a mesh bag or a pillowcase loosely tied closed. Use a small amount of a very mild detergent and wash on a gentle cycle, such as a wool or delicates cycle, at a temperature of no more than 86°F (30°C). If you use a spin cycle, keep it as short as possible.

Treating stains

  • A capful of hydrogen peroxide and or a few drops of ammonia added to the wash will help keep white silk bright and rinsing silk in white vinegar diluted with water will help remove yellowing. While recent perspiration stains may be washed out or dabbed with a tablespoon of ammonia dissolved in half cup of water, older perspiration may be removed with a vinegar solution.
